The Wind In The Willows Movie Party

After reading the book we started a new tradition for our read alouds. We had a picnic in our living room with food inspired from the book! We ate while we watched the movie version of The Wind In The Willows. We started a new tradition today! Ezra was so engaged with this book!

We worked for half the day getting all of the food ready together. There is a lot of fun food mentioned throughout the book such as ginger beer, cold chicken, bubble and squeak, trifle, cheese, rolls, butter and toast, lemonade, salad, celery, and pickled gherkins. Some of these are traditional English foods. We also made whole grain woodland themed shortbread cookies!

We were also blessed to find beautiful flowers on clearance for $3 each, one that "caught Ezra's eye" and matched the book cover perfectly.

Ezra had so much fun cooking (math, language arts, life skills), setting it all up, and enjoying the movie as a family while munching on the same foods the characters were! We will definitely be doing this with more books in the future.

He woke up so excited to spend the day together making cookies and preparing the other food. This is why I love homeschool. I'm so thankful for this time with my guy and the freedom to follow his interests and spark a curiosity and love of learning in a way that makes sense for him.
